Day 3 Week 2 Statia

Thomb

We started the day with crepes that Erin made and then spent the day in Statia doing a bit of hiking, shopping and exploring the island. When we were here last week there was a new dockside bar/cafe they were preparing to open. Fortunately it opened the day we were there on this 2nd week and I was the very first person (besides the cable guy) to access their internet!

Thom and I checked us in at customs and then I hung out at a cool outdoor restaurant that has great internet. On our way over on the dinghy the crew hammed it up for us:

That afternoon, the fisherman on the monohull that anchored next to us dinghied over and offered us some of his wahoo, he had an overabundance – said he caught a 30lb wahoo so we gave him some beers and a package of tortillas in trade. Mark cut the slab into some nice fillets that fed 8 of us 2 to 3 times and we still had leftovers. Oh…those fish tacos with that fresh wahoo Mark prepared, guacamole made by Erin & rice made by Krisann was phenomenal! (Seems like my sailing blogs have somehow become food blogs)

We left Statia at about 4:00 AM to sail to St Barts. It was supposed to be a very nice night with average wind speed around 15 knots with gusts to 20. We thought a double reef would be fine and we were correct. All hands were on deck to prepare for the sail, then we split into two teams for night-watch, I was on the 2nd team with Joe and Krisann so we got to sleep until about 7 AM before we took over. Troy actually pulled an all-nighter so it was nice to have an extra hand on board as we arrived at St Bart’s.
