Day 2 – Treasure Cay

Thomb

We left Bakers Bay in the morning and sailed to Treasure Cay. It was quite windy, the waves were high and a couple of our crew members were feeling a bit seasick. Fortunately it was only 8.2 nautical miles so it was a pretty fast trip.

I got to set the route, manage the crew, and was helmsman as we untethered from the mooring ball. After about 20 minutes at the helm, I passed it on to Patti and took over as navigator for the remainder of the trip.

Patti was at the helm during the worst of it. About halfway across, a line of waves were showing up in front of us out of nowhere…almost as if there was a reef right in our path. There was nothing worrisome on the chart in front of us so we sailed through toward Treasure Cay.

We tethered up to a mooring ball in the marina and most of the crew took the dinghy over to Treasure Cay to explore. Doreen, Captain Thom and I stayed behind to work on the water maker. I have experience with water makers and Thom has a ton of experience but this one was pretty complex and not very intuitive. Unfortunately, it would keep shutting off and we were having problems making enough water to support all the people on the boat.

We contacted the charter manager for instruction and I manually pressurized the bladder for the water maker. It seemed to work but we continued to have issues so I ran the manual process again and after that it worked fine.

At this point, it was pretty late so we stayed on board, had leftovers for dinner and just relaxed. The plan was to dinghy over to Treasure Cay in the morning before we set sail for Elbow Cay.
