Basic Keelboat Club Fleet

# LOA Model Location
1 26′ Pearson BIM

Our Duluth/Superior Basic Keelboat Club fleet consists of a Pearson 26 with head and an outboard. This is the same boat we used for our Basic Keelboat classes. NiteCap has a roller furling jib, full-battened mainsail and an almost new outboard. You will like how this boat sails! The Pearson 26 is a very easy boat to sail and has a roomy interior for younger children and a private head. Our boats are very well maintained.

The Pearson 26, NiteCap, is available to all Basic Keelboat Club members who have a Basic Keelboat (ASA 101) certification or higher. A check-ride is required before using our boats.

More details about “How it works”

  • A use is defined as a time window. We use two time windows: 8 AM–1 PM and 1:30 PM–6:30 PM. If you talk to us in advance you may reserve both time slots on one day with prior approval.
  • Reservations for uses are done through our website. We provide you with a login name and password. You can make reservations up to two weeks in advance. You will receive an email confirmation of your reservation which is also sent to the office. You may occasionally notice that the boat is reserved by Northern Breezes Sailing School for maintenance, check ride, etc.
  • Memberships are annual: When you sign up in the middle of the sailing season, your membership continues into the next sailing season and finishes one year from your start date. So, if you have leftover “uses” from one season, they wrap-around into the next until your membership ends.
  • We provide all boat club members a booklet with detailed checklists and instructions on how to operate each of the boats and, in particular, the outboard engines. If all else fails, we provide a couple of phone numbers to call.
  • We hold a facility and boat indoctrination for each member who signs up for an annual membership.
  • Please tell us if anything is wrong with a boat, dock or the facility. This helps us to keep your experience happy and pleasant!
  • Your access to the Clubhouse facilities and grounds is generous. Barker's Island wants you to become their customer when you purchase a boat. They treat you like a customer from the start.
  • Plan your trip wisely so that you can return on time. Lake Superior can surprise you. Pay attention to weather. Enjoy your sail!
