We woke up early as we were planning to leave at 5:45 to catch maximum high tide. Unfortunately, it was storming and very dark so it wasn’t safe to leave. We slept for another hour then readied the boat to get underway.
Our plan was to head to the Sugar Loaf reefs near Matt Lowes Cay (only 2.7 nautical miles away) but we knew we were losing time to navigate through the narrow shallow channel out of the marina. It was challenging and a great learning opportunity…Captain Thom was at the helm, I was navigating and calling out the depth from the depth meter. Everyone else was on deck as we departed the marina.
We anchored near the Sugar Loaf reefs and a few people snorkeled but it was pretty rough and there wasn’t much to see. We decided to head over to Mermaid Reef which was just outside of the Marsh Harbour Marina where we needed to return the boat the following day. It was a great decision as the snorkeling was fantastic (no, I didn’t snorkel but most of the others did). It was a great decision as the snorkeling was fantastic.
We had a nice lunch on the hook (at anchor), Deb and Patti did a little more snorkeling and then we headed to Harbour View Marina to spend our last night on the boat. We had a cocktail while lounging on the deck of our catamaran, did a little dancing and watched the sunset.
Half of the crew headed over to Snappa’s for dinner and I, Jeanne, stayed on the boat with Patti, Doreen, Paul and Deb to try to finish up the rum and eat some fantastic chicken fajitas that Deb made. What a nice way to spend the last night on the boat!
