9:00 AM – We checked into Saba customs and got into our tour guide’s (Garvis) van. We had a great tour around the island, stopped for lunch, did a little shopping and headed back down to the dock to get back on the Cat. There’s a storm heading our way so we decided it was best to get underway to Statia before nightfall.
This is our van for the day. We had the same tour guide on both of my trips here last year. He does a nice job but his commentary (done via microphone) was verbatim to last years. I may skip the tour next week and do a hike instead.
Saba is a beautiful Dutch Island!
Before we dinghied back to the Catamaran, a couple of fishermen pulled up to the dock with lobsters in their cages. We bought fresh lobster (being prepared by our chef Jonathan as I write this post). It’s going to be fabulous but even if not, the guys had a blast posing with the beasts!
We decided to get the boat underway and make an evening approach to Stacia. We were already reefed for the winds which were on our quarter. Departure preparations went smooth and we were underway while preparing for a great dinner aboard!
Well, time for dinner!!! Fresh lobster with leftover shrimp pasta from last night. We knew we had found something special in Jonathon, not a cook, a chef!
The final approach to Stacia was exciting for the crew because of the long oil pipe and all the commercial tankers and tugs we have to pass prior to anchoring since we could not find any park service mooring balls. Great drill, anchoring at night in a new location after transiting through the commercial area on the northwest side of Statia.
