Description<\/h3>\nBasic Small Boat (ASA 110) is a two-session, 6-hour course. Classes are taught by American Sailing certified instructors on Medicine Lake in Plymouth, MN aboard a 17′ trimaran\nNorthern Breezes Sailing School offers you a terrific Learn-to-Sail program with the combination of the finest school and a superb WindRider 17 Sailing trimaran. Located on Medicine Lake, west of the Twin Cities, French Regional Park<\/a>\u00a0is near the intersection of I-494 and Rockford Road. Medicine Lake is the 2nd largest lake in the western suburbs after Lake Minnetonka at 902 acres. It is located in Plymouth, Minnesota-ten minutes or less from New Hope, Maple Grove, Golden Valley, St. Louis Park, Crystal, Robbinsdale, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center.\nClasses are limited to two students. This small seminar environment provides a great instructor to student ratio for very effective skipper and crew training. Each session starts with a briefing on the day’s lesson, getting underway, sailing exercises and ends with docking and securing the boat.\n

Included in tuition, students receive the Let’s Go Sailing<\/em> textbook and the American Sailing Log Book.<\/p>\n

Upon successful completion of both the on-the-water and written exam, the Basic Keelboat graduate receives an American Sailing Certificate, a seal for their Log Book, and an invitation to join the Northern Breezes Boat Club to continue sailing without the requirement to buy a boat; all while wearing your recently earned “skipper’s hat!”<\/p>\n *** Medicine Lake graduates are encouraged to join our Small Boat Club on Medicine Lake<\/a>. ***\n\t\t\t\t\"ASA-Certification-110-Book-Cover\"\n\t

Course Outline<\/h3>\n\n

Session 1: <\/strong>Getting Underway, Tacking, Jibing, Points of Sail, Steering, Sail Trim, Docking, Securing the Boat.<\/p>\nSession 2: <\/strong>Review Day 1, Reefing, Crew Overboard Drill (COB), Solo Checkout,
\nWritten Exam.\n

Classes are cancelled and rescheduled due to weather: no wind, too much wind, potential lightning or pouring rain. Sailing is not<\/em> an endurance test. It is fun, safe learning of a lifelong skill set. Graduates meet all the prerequisites for more advanced courses and the Northern Breezes Boat Club.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\"wr-ada-cropped\"\n\t

Family and Friends<\/h3>\n

Class size is limited to two students per boat. These are very family friendly. A family of six for example might put 3 people on each boat with an instructor but only certify one or two of them per boat. It is like taking your twelve year old on an educational sailing event without expectations but with lots of experiential learning! This is a great mother – daughter \/ father – son option. You pick the combination!<\/p>\n

Instructor to Student Ratio is One to Two Maximum!<\/p>\nWe are flexible.\u00a0 If you would like day classes, private lessons, rides, refresher, etc.\u00a0 Please call. This is especially applicable to this class.

Directions to French Regional Park Sailing Docks<\/h3>\n

French Regional Park, 12605 Rockford Road, Plymouth, MN 55441<\/strong><\/p>\n

From Interstate 494<\/strong> (just north of Highway 55), take Rockford Road east (Rockford Road is also named Hwy 9 or 42nd Avenue,) 1\/2 mile to French Regional Park entrance, which will be on your south or right side.<\/p>\nFrom Highway 169<\/strong>, exit west onto Rockford Road (Hwy 9 or 42nd Avenue). Proceed west 2 miles to French Regional Park entrance, which will be on your left or south side.
\nFollow the park roadway about a mile down to the lakeshore parking area.\n\t

Medicine Lake, MN courses:<\/h3>\n

2026 Class Schedule; 6 hour course.<\/strong><\/p>\nChoose from Morning, Afternoon or Evening; and Weekday or Weekend.
\nClasses meet for two 3-hour sessions.
\nEvening Classes are scheduled to conclude by the end of Civil Twilight.
